BarrKode / The artist

About BarrKode.

The story behind the voice.

San Bernardino / Inland Empire

A voice out of the 909.

BarrKode spent his preteen and teenage years in and out of San Bernardino County’s juvenile hall system. During that time, his love for hip-hop grew from beatboxing to pass the time into a passion for battle rap. Entering the battle rap scene as a young white rapper in Southern California during the mid-to-late 1990s came with its own challenges.

After recording a few songs, BarrKode stepped away from music as he became a father. Following the loss of his oldest child, he welcomed two daughters, whom he went on to raise on his own for many years.

More than 20 years later, BarrKode and his siblings lost their mother to a brain aneurysm. In the wake of that loss, his younger brother, Mike, who had always been his biggest fan, encouraged him to return to music, take his craft seriously, and pursue his full potential as an artist.

Sadly, Mike passed away shortly afterward. Today, BarrKode continues to write and perform in his brother’s memory, keeping Mike close to his heart and honoring the encouragement that brought him back to music.
